No 67 restaurant

CULTURAL DINING

Want to feel cultured whilst sipping on a soya cappuccino or tucking into a 3-course meal? Then head on down to Peckham Road, where you will find South London Gallery. A beautiful contemporary art space opened in 1981 with the mission ‘to bring art to the people of south London’. And now bringing delicious coffee and a unique menu to the locals in the shape of No 67. An independent cafe-cum-restaurant nestled inside the South London Gallery.

As you would expect of a gallery eatery,  No 67 style is minimalist chic. With light walls, long wooden benches and large patio style windows that look out onto a cosy garden area. If you are lucky to find a warm eve, you can dine alfresco during the warmer months.

Many pop down here for a mooch around the gallery before having brunch on a weekend. We came down on a Wednesday eve to check out the restaurants deal; 3 courses for £22 on a Wednesday and Thursday.

This bistro style restaurant offers a seasonal menu full of creative dishes, like globe artichoke with vinaigrette.  Quite a magnificent starter, a piece of art if you will. After papping this armour like bud, I quickly tried to work out how one was meant to eat a globe artichoke. Turns out you kind of nibble the fleshy bit and dip in the vinaigrette...I think.

The restaurant has quite an interesting layout, an intimate front cafe area that leads you on to the airy, peaceful dining space at the back. The restaurant and gallery are separated by an archway. Miss your turning for the loo’s and you end up in the gift shop (which I did between my starter and main course).

The staff are pleasant albeit rather slow, so whilst waiting for courses to arrive we checked out the gallery and the gift shop. Who doesn't love a museum/gallery gift shop! This dinky little shop had some cool prints and some arty tote bags, kind of what you expect from a Peckham gallery gift shop.

The highlight of the meal? The vegan chocolate mousse and lemon raspberry tart- tasty little treats, homemade and intensely rich (but in a good way).

With lots of quirky exhibitions on all the time, South London Gallery is definitely one of the Art galleries in London worth visiting. Followed by sampling some of the delights No 67 has to offer. Check out what is on at the gallery here.
