Pizza and Peckhamplex

A chilled Friday in Peckham

A rainy night in Peckham = pizza and a film. So, first stop, Pizza.

We thought we would check out a relatively new wood fired pizzeria down Bellenden Road - "The Beautiful Pizza Boy". It's the latest venture from the guys Pedler and Little Bird Gin.

It was a quick pit stop as we only had 50 mins before the film started. Seated at the bar, we ordered prosecco, a margherita pizza and a small plate.

Wood fired Neapolitan pizza is the main focus of the menu (reasonably priced at £8/£9) as well as cured meats & cheeses and small plates to accompany your pizza- the fried aubergine, ricotta, honey, pines nuts dish is seriously tasty.

The beautiful pizza boy

The Beautiful Pizza Boy has a similar vibe to Pedler with its vintage decor, laid back atmosphere and friendly staff. It's a pretty narrow, snug space filled with communal tables, palm print wallpaper and a wood fired oven at the centre of it. The open kitchen means you can watch the chef roll out your pizza whilst you sip on your tipple at the bar.

This doughy eatery is a nice little addition to Bellenden Road, next time we want to try a few more side plates and get stuck in to the inventive cocktail menu.

After our pizza fix we headed down the road to catch a film at one of the capital’s best loved independent cinemas - Peckhamplex. It’s  a throwback to the 90’s- in decor and price, £4.99 for a ticket all day, everyday of the week. Yup.

Peckhamplex

Established in 1994, Peckhamplex quickly became a favourite among South London film fans. It has six screens with a programme that features the latest films as well as foreign language and independent films.

Don’t expect fancy. This is your no frills, sticky floor kind of cinema. However, it’s a place with an abundance of charm and is a Peckham institution.

Make sure to book early here (there is another site which isn’t official) as massive queues quickly form outside- plus you can’t reserve seats.

Oh, and we watched La La land. Sensational.*tap dances home*
